Configuring Bridged Call Appearances

A Bridged Call Appearance (BCA) is a standalone extension that is shared among multiple users. A BCA has an extension and a call stack depth. Each user with access to the BCA can monitor a different call stack position.

When configuring an IP phone button for BCA, you can create a new BCA or select an existing BCA to monitor.

 

Note

You must have available programming numbers on your account to create a new BCA. If additional programming numbers are needed for your account, contact ShoreTel Support.

BCA extension are included in the Employee directory and in system dial-by-name directories. Caller ID is not displayed for inbound BCA calls.

Configuring an IP Phone Button for a BCA Extension

A user answers a BCA call by pressing a ShoreTel IP phone button that is assigned to a BCA call stack position. ShoreTel IP phone buttons that answer calls are configured to handle calls to a specific call stack position of a BCA. A button can be programmed for each position in the call stack.

1. On the Phone System menu, click Users.

2. In the Service/Phone Name column, click the service/ phone name for the user for whom you want to monitor another user’s BCA.

The Phone Settings page for the selected user is displayed.

3. Select the Prog Buttons tab.

4. Click the subtab for the phone or button box for which you want to program a button for BCA.

5. Select the line button you want to configure.

The parameters for the selected line button are displayed to the right of the line buttons table.

6. Under Prog Button Settings, do the following:

a. In the Type drop-down list, select All or Telephony.

b. In the Function drop-down list, select Bridged Call Appearance.

c. In the Long Label and Short Label fields, type a label to appear next to the button on the phone LED display to remind the user of the button’s function, as follows:

The Short Label field applies to most ShoreTel multiple-line phones and can be up to 6 characters, but only the first 5 characters display on most phones; the ShoreTel BB24 and IP212k can display 6 characters.

The Long Label field applies to the ShoreTel IP655, IP480, IP480g, IP485g, and BB424 models.

d. In the Select/Create BCA list, do one of the following:

Select an existing BCA extension to assign to the button.

Select Create New BCA to create a new BCA extension to assign to the button.

The BCA extension is assigned automatically. If desired, you can change this extension to another available programming extension.

7. Under Target, enter the desired information to configure the remaining button parameters.

8. Click Save.

 

Note

When you set or change the parameters for a BCA, those parameters are used everywhere the BCA is used.

BCA Button Parameters

Parameter

Description

Select/Create BCA

Select an existing BCA extension or select Create New BCA to create a new BCA extension to monitor.

BCA Name

Specifies the name of the BCA.

Extension

Specifies the extension on which the BCA receives calls.

The BCA extension is assigned automatically. If desired, you can change this extension to another available programming extension.

Backup extension

Specifies the extension that receives calls for the BCA when the switch that supports the BCA is out of service.

Call stack position

Select the call stack position to monitor.

Calls to a BCA occupy distinct call appearance buttons and are identified by their position in the call stack. ShoreTel IP phone buttons that answer calls are configured to handle calls to a specific call stack position of a BCA. A button can be programmed for each position in the call stack.

Call forward destinations

Specifies the numbers to forward inbound BCA calls to when the calls are not answered after the third ring or because the specified call stack depth has been reached.

Busy - Specifies the number to forward calls to when the specified call stack depth has been reached; enter the desired extension, and then click the search button to locate the extension in the account directory.

No answer - Specifies the number to forward calls to when the call is unanswered after the specified number of rings; enter the desired extension, and then click the search button to locate the extension in the account directory.

Allow bridge conferencing

Select this check box to allow conferencing on the BCA.

Conference Privacy

Specifies whether to initially allow other users of the BCA to join active BCA conference calls.

Other parties can’t join (default) - initially other users of the BCA are prevented from joining active BCA conference calls.

Other parties can join - initially other users of the BCA are allowed to join active BCA conference calls.
A tone is played whenever another party joins a conference call on the BCA.

Note: These options are only available if bridge conferencing is enabled for the BCA.
