Provisioning Phones for Mitel Connect CLOUD in the UK or Australia

By default, new Mitel phones are configured to connect to a Mitel Connect CLOUD instance in the US/Canada. The following procedures describe how to reset the phones so that they can connect to the correct global Mitel Connect CLOUD instance. The cloud domains for these locations are as follows:

NOTE:  At the time of this writing, Mitel Connect CLOUD is not available in Europe outside of the UK. However, this article will be applicable to other European countries as we expand.

To check the Mitel Connect CLOUD instance configured for your phone, see Checking the Mitel Connect CLOUD Instance Configuration. If your phone is not connected to the correct global instance, you will need to do one of the following:

Configuring Phones Using DHCP Option 156

The preferred method for maintaining your phone firmware and configuring phones to point to the correct global Mitel Connect CLOUD instance is to enable DHCP Option 156. With this feature enabled, there is no need to manually edit phone settings to direct phones to the correct global Mitel Connect CLOUD instance. Enabling this feature enables phones to automatically update from ONSITE-compatible phone firmware to CLOUD-compatible phone firmware.

When using Mitel DHCP option tag 156 to configure phones, you may set the option string with the following parameters, depending on the location of the phones:

When phones receive the DHCP data with the option tag settings above, the following occurs:

NOTE: For more information about enabling DHCP Option 156, see How to Setup DHCP Option 156 for Mitel Phones.

To check the status of DHCP Option 156 on your phone:

  1. Press the MUTE button and then on the phone key pad press INFO# (4636#).
  2. Enter the Admin password (1234), and press the OK soft key.
  3. Scroll to the Internet Protocol menu item, and press the Open soft key.
  4. Scroll to the DHCP Lease menu item, and press the Details soft key.
  5. If Option 156 is displayed, the feature is enabled for this phone.

If DHCP Option 156 is not enabled, contact your Network Administrator to have the feature enabled. Alternately, you can update your phone to connect to the correct global Mitel Connect CLOUD instance using the manual configuration procedure below.

Manually Connecting Phones to a Global Mitel Connect CLOUD Instance

If DHCP Option 156 is not enabled for your phone, you may need to manually configure your phone to connect to the correct global Mitel Connect CLOUD instance in the following cases:

To manually connect a phone to a global Connect CLOUD instance:

  1. Press the MUTE button and then on the phone key pad press SETUP# (73887#).
  2. Enter the Admin password (1234), and press the OK soft key.
  3. Scroll to the Services menu item, and press the Open soft key.
  4. Scroll to the Cloud domain option, and use the Backsp soft key to delete the current domain, and then use the key pad to enter one of the following, depending on your location:
    • UK/Europe: sky.shoretel.eu
    • Australia: sky.shoretel.com.au

    NOTE: By default, phones are configured to connect to a Mitel Connect CLOUD instance in the US/Canada.

  5. Press the Back soft key, and then press the Apply soft key.

    The phone reboots; when the phone displays the 'Cloud credentials' prompt, it is now pointing to the correct global Connect CLOUD instance.

  6. At the Cloud credentials prompt, enter the DID number and password.

Checking the Mitel Connect CLOUD Instance Configuration

Use the following procedure to verify that the proper fully qualified domain name is specified in the Cloud domain field: 

  1. Press the MUTE button and then on the phone key pad press INFO# (4636#).
  2. Enter the Admin password (1234), and press the OK soft key.
  3. Scroll to the Services menu item, and press the Open soft key.
  4. Verify that the Cloud domain field shows the appropriate fully qualified domain name for your location.

    NOTE: Only phones running CLOUD-compatible firmware will display the Cloud domain field.

  5. Press the Back soft key, and then press the Exit soft key.
